The Organic Success Story of Ambrosia Farms in Goa

Discover the remarkable journey of Ambrosia Organic Farm in Goa, led by the visionary Janardan Khorate. Originally established in 1993 by David Grower and Michaela Kelemen, this farm has transformed from a local enterprise to a national sensation, boasting a remarkable growth trajectory that has caught the attention of organic produce enthusiasts across the country.

The Seeds of Growth: Cultivating Success

Janardan Khorate, known affectionately as John, inherited the reins of Ambrosia Organic Farm in 2008 when its profits surged from Rs 20 lakh to an impressive Rs 22 crore. Reflecting on the farm's origins, Janardan recalls how his adoptive parents, David and Michaela, were captivated by the lush landscapes of Goa and aspired to establish an organic haven in the region.

Initially focusing on cultivating tomatoes, capsicums, and various fruits on their 5-acre farm in Siolim, Goa, the couple's dedication to organic farming laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Ambrosia Organic Farm. The venture soon diversified its offerings to include peanut butter, rice, and grains such as chia, marking the dawn of a new era for the farm.

From Local Favoritism to National Acclaim

The turning point for Ambrosia came in 2016 with the advent of online sales, propelling the farm to national prominence. Embracing the digital landscape, Ambrosia leveraged platforms like Amazon to broaden its customer base beyond local patrons, attracting consumers from far-flung states like Delhi.

Today, Ambrosia boasts an expansive 135-acre farmland with over 4,000 registered farmers collaborating to produce 59 different products. From blueberry-infused peanut butter to delectable rice cakes made from a medley of rice varieties, Ambrosia's offerings have captured the palates of international audiences, particularly Russians, Italians, and Germans.

Driving Social Impact and Sustainable Growth

Leading with a commitment to social responsibility, Ambrosia not only champions organic farming practices but also actively supports local communities and schools in the Goa and Maharashtra regions. With a turnover of Rs 22 crore in the previous financial year, the farm is poised for continued success in the organic produce market.

Janardan and his team source premium products like apple cider vinegar from Himachal Pradesh, fostering partnerships with farmers to ensure quality and sustainability. Furthermore, Ambrosia has expanded its market reach beyond India, venturing into exports to Japan and Taiwan, with plans to enter the Middle Eastern market in the coming year.

While Ambrosia's growth trajectory continues to soar, Janardan remains grounded by the serendipitous nature of his journey. The unforeseen path that led him to the helm of Ambrosia is a testament to the unpredictable yet fulfilling nature of life's opportunities.
