Reviving Indian Dialects: Creating a 'Netflix' Post Rs 40 Cr Loss

Revolutionizing Content: STAGE - The OTT Platform for Local Dialects
In a world dominated by mainstream content, one man's journey from viral success to starting anew has led to the creation of a groundbreaking OTT platform catering to local dialects. Vinay Singhal, along with his partners, embarked on a quest to provide a platform for the diverse vernacular languages that make up the fabric of India, giving rise to STAGE in 2019.

Driven by the realization that there was a significant gap in content creation for local dialects despite their widespread usage, Singhal's vision extended to capturing the essence of regional languages like Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, and more. He identified the need to move beyond traditional language barriers to truly connect with the heart of India - its diverse set of dialects.
The Vision for STAGE
STAGE emerged as a beacon for local dialects, offering a variety of content including web series, movies, poetry, comedy shows, and folk tales, all presented in languages close to the hearts of millions. The platform, initially focusing on Haryanvi and Rajasthani, quickly garnered success and expanded its reach to cater to a wider audience base. With over 400 hours of curated content, STAGE aims to provide an authentic entertainment experience that resonates with the 'Bharat' audience.
What sets STAGE apart is its commitment to localized storytelling and creating a platform that serves as a hub for regional artists. The co-founders, backed by a dedicated team of 40 individuals working remotely across the country, have successfully integrated over 1,500 local artists in Haryana and 500 in Rajasthan into the platform, fostering a new era of opportunities for talents in these regions.

Expanding Horizons and Recognition
As STAGE continues to flourish, plans are underway to introduce content tailored for audiences in eastern UP and Bihar, with future expansions into languages like Bhojpuri, Magahi, and Maithili. The platform's remarkable growth, evident from its 2.25 lakh paid subscribers in Haryana and Rajasthan, signifies a shift towards locally driven narratives that resonate deeply with viewers.
Noteworthy is STAGE's appearance on Shark Tank Season 2, where the co-founders sought funding to further propel their vision. Despite past setbacks, the team remains resilient, learning from earlier experiences and building a sustainable model that prioritizes autonomy and growth.
Celebrating Local Talent
STAGE's impact transcends entertainment; it symbolizes the rise of 'Harrywood' in Haryana, fostering a thriving ecosystem of production houses and creators. By creating a marketplace for local talent, the platform has not only empowered artists but also given rise to a new wave of authentic storytelling rooted in the cultural ethos of India.
STAGE stands as a testament to the power of regional storytelling, bridging the gap between mainstream and local narratives and ushering in a new era of content creation that celebrates the linguistic diversity of the country.
