OpenAI has announced the discontinuation of ChatGPT Atlas, its standalone desktop browser, with the features now being integrated into the new ChatGPT desktop app. This updated application includes ChatGPT Work, which is OpenAI's work-oriented agent, along with ChatGPT Codex.
The End of ChatGPT Atlas
James Sun from OpenAI confirmed the deprecation of Atlas, scheduled for August 9. The decision to move away from Atlas was made to streamline operations and consolidate the browsing capabilities with other essential features within the ChatGPT ecosystem.
- "The current targeted date for deprecation is 8/9, and we’ll share more information in the upcoming days both in-app and via email," Sun mentioned.
Transition to a Unified Desktop App
