How This Bengaluru Startup Enables High Earnings Locally

The Rise of Local Job Opportunities: Empowering Communities Through Mikro Grafeio
Every year, a significant number of individuals move to new cities in pursuit of job opportunities, often leaving behind the familiarity of their hometowns. The phenomenon of migration is particularly pronounced in India, where millions migrate within the country for employment, while a substantial number seek opportunities abroad. Notably, the global landscape reflects India as a significant contributor to the educated migrant population in developed nations.
Amidst this backdrop of migration, the necessity for job creation within hometowns has become increasingly apparent. Addressing this need, Bengaluru-based entrepreneur Santosh Mahalingam established Mikro Grafeio, a social impact startup with a vision to facilitate job placements in smaller towns. By attracting businesses and startups to these localities, Santosh aims to provide the essential infrastructure and skilled workforce required to stimulate local economies.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Santosh recalls the challenges he faced three decades ago as a qualified individual unable to secure employment in his native town or nearby cities, eventually relocating to Bengaluru. This experience inspired him to establish Mikro Grafeio in 2021 with a mission to create local job opportunities and support individuals in finding meaningful work within their communities.
Finding an opportunity
Santosh's career trajectory, spanning various international locations, provided him with insights into the changing dynamics of work culture, particularly highlighted during the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The shift towards remote work and decentralized operations underscored the feasibility of working from anywhere, a realization that influenced Santosh to transition from a corporate banking career of 27 years to founding Mikro Grafeio.

Beyond offering physical workspaces, Mikro Grafeio actively advocates for the decentralization of business operations, encouraging companies to establish their presence in Tier II and III cities. By facilitating the setup of workspaces and assisting in local talent recruitment, the initiative aims to harness the untapped potential of smaller towns and cities in driving economic growth.
Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide
In a country where the urban migration trend predominates, Santosh emphasizes the necessity for a more diversified economic landscape. Through collaborative efforts with domestic and international companies, Mikro Grafeio endeavors to create employment opportunities in emerging urban centers, fostering a conducive environment for both employers and employees.

The success of Mikro Grafeio is evident in its impact, having facilitated over 1,000 job opportunities across 21 cities, spanning diverse sectors such as IT, finance, accounting, retail, architecture, and digital marketing. The initiative's expanding reach signifies a transformative shift towards inclusive economic growth, with plans to extend its operations to 44 cities by the year's end.
By enabling individuals like Revathi Ndurai to secure employment in her desired location and promoting job retention in smaller towns, Mikro Grafeio exemplifies a sustainable solution to the challenges of urban migration. Through initiatives that foster local job creation, Santosh envisions a future where individuals can pursue rewarding careers while contributing to the prosperity of their communities.
